HSMAI & Marina Bay Sands Support Future Hotel Leaders

The hospitality industry continues to face an important challenge across Asia Pacific: how to better connect the next generation of talent with the realities, opportunities, and future of the industry itself.

At the 2026 Commercial Strategy Conference (CSC) in Singapore, HSMAI Asia Pacific and Marina Bay Sands partnered to address this challenge through a dedicated Student Stream, welcoming 53 graduate hospitality students for a curated industry immersion experience designed to introduce them to the commercial side of hospitality.

This year, a select group of graduating hospitality students and interns were invited to participate in a dedicated “Students Stream” held on Day 2 of CSC, the initiative gave students access to HSMAI Masterclasses focused on Revenue Management, Sales, and Marketing disciplines, allowing them to learn in a workshop style alongside experienced hoteliers and commercial leaders from across Asia Pacific.

The students also participated in a special session facilitated by Brian Hicks, CEO & President of HSMAI Global, before joining an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with Marina Bay Sands team members responsible for Revenue Management, Sales, and Marketing operations at one of Asia’s most iconic integrated resorts.

More than just classroom learning, the experience was designed to immerse students in the real hospitality industry — giving them the opportunity to network directly with senior leaders, observe commercial strategy discussions firsthand, and better understand the evolving career opportunities available within hospitality today.

The initiative also reflects HSMAI Asia Pacific’s broader commitment to working closely with hospitality schools and faculty across the region to help bridge the gap between education and industry realities. Through ongoing collaboration with educators, industry leaders, and commercial specialists, HSMAI aims to ensure that hospitality students are exposed to the evolving skills, technologies, and commercial thinking increasingly required in today’s hospitality landscape.

Jackie Douglas, President of HSMAI Asia Pacific, said the industry has an important responsibility to engage future talent earlier and more meaningfully.

“The hospitality industry is evolving incredibly quickly, particularly across commercial disciplines like Revenue Management, Marketing, Distribution, and Technology. It’s important that students — and the educators supporting them — stay connected to what’s happening in the real world.

Through initiatives like the CSC Student Stream, we want future hospitality leaders to experience the industry firsthand, build relationships early, and better understand the opportunities available within modern hospitality careers.”

WeeMin Ong added that creating industry exposure early is essential for building the future hospitality workforce.

“At Marina Bay Sands, we believe the future of hospitality depends on developing talent early and giving students meaningful exposure to how the industry operates today.

Partnering with HSMAI on this initiative allowed students to engage directly with industry professionals, understand the commercial side of hospitality, and see how disciplines like Revenue Management, Sales, and Marketing work together to shape the guest experience.”

As commercial disciplines continue to evolve rapidly through technology, AI, and changing guest behaviours, initiatives like the CSC Student Stream aim to help bridge the gap between hospitality education and industry realities — while building stronger connections between the next generation of talent and the professionals already shaping the future of the industry.

HSMAI Asia Pacific plans to continue expanding student engagement initiatives across future conferences as part of its broader commitment to supporting hospitality talent development across the region.
